I have had 2 colonoscopies, they had found severe colon spams and a pollyp they had taken out,and the second one they couldn't not finish because my prep kit didn't work like it should. I have had a barium enema that came back fine. Tomorrow i am have a stomach and small bowl series. My doctor still hasn't figured out what is wrong with me. He saids its worst than IBS but he has no idea. So right now he is calling it colitis and is treating me with that. The problem is the medicine is not working. i was wondering if anyone else went through or is going through the test problems and the outcome of your experiences stevie

stevie,
Okay so I found some answers to some of my questions in this post. However still curious if your doctor is a gastro. I would think if you had active Crohn's or Colitis that the Colonoscopies would have shown definite proof of this but I suppose that is not always the case. Because everybody reacts differently to medication it can take sometime for your doctor to find the right group of meds that work for you. Have they tried any type of steroid yet, such as prednisone? Although taking prednisone is not the greatest thing in the world it does seem to do the trick in most patients suffering from Crohn's or Colitis.
Just hang in there and keep your head up. You have to have trust in your doctor and if you don't you may want to find a new one. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you for your reply. The doctor i see is just a family doctor, he doesn't go into detail on the results just he says i have colitis. So after my second colonoscopy he put me on paxil, anaspaz, buspar, and ultram. i had just seen him on Monday, and i wensday a had a small bowel series. I won't know the results for a month b/c that is he said to come in so. my husband is a paramedic and he sees people with bad problems with there colon and he said i need to see a specialist. my HUSBAND LOL but me on a strict diet and he is helping me get through whatever i have. The problem I have with seeing someone else is it doesn't seem like dr. take it serous enough. Also, I live in a very small town i will have to go to a differant town to see a specialist how do you find a good one that will help if you have know idea what is wrong. I am very flustered i fell like i will be like this forever.

I would say you definitely need to get to a gastroenterologist. I was in the same boat before I was able to get diagnosed. Although I live in a very large city so I didn't have a problem finding a great Dr. You may want to start off by asking your family Dr. if he can reffer you to a good gastro in the area. If not you can try looking at the CCFA's website and find a doctor there. You could alway just use google as well. I'm not saying your family doctor doesn't know what he is doing it's just that if you have been through this much with him and he is still unsure of what the correct Dx is than you need to find someone who can help. Let me know how your search pans out and if you have any other questions. Sean
