Hi Amy! Glad you decided to join us. Like I said earlier to Todd, Congrats on the new addition! It sounds like you are going through quite a rough time right now with being a new mother and being Dx with UC all in the last few months. Seems like an awful lot to take in in such a short period of time. However I think you are quite an amazing individual for taking it as well as you seem to be and I'm sure having Todd around is great because he really seems to be understanding. You need to trust in your doctor and know that they will find the right mix of Meds to get things under control. I would encourage you to check out our Medications board and read the posts regarding Probiotics as it may be a treatment you may want to speak with your doc about. In the meantime hang in there and please ask any questions you have as we seem to be putting together a community with quite a bit of experience in the IBD arena. Can't wait to hear more from you! Sean

Hi, my name is Pearl and I saw this board posted on Dragonpack.com. My son is 18 and was diagnosed with Crohn's about two years ago. After prednisone, 6mp, flagyl pentasa and remicade, he had part of his ileum removed and since then he's begun to gain weight again. I'm learning a lot from these boards, about various treatments and the way that so many of us, both patients and their loved ones, are coping with this disease and advocating for treatment. I'm very grateful for forums like this. Thanks, Pearl

Hi everyone, Still trying to figure out how all this works....I just have a question about Remicade. The Doctors mentioned that if my current meds don't work and I'm just wondering what it is and what the side effects are? I know its expensive and it has to be given through IV but thats about it. Also I'm having a hard time figuring out a good diet...I know everyone is diff but Im finding it hard especially where I have crohns and colitis...anyways any info would help thanks

hey thanks, yeah i just checked out that page...its a good site...hopefully the pred and pentasa will help and I won't have to go on Remicade(it costs way to much and I don't have insurance)....the prednisone has a lot of side effects but I don't care as long as I'm getting better..I just wish i didn't have to go on it everytime i get a flare up and at such a high does...is it normal to decrease but 5mg every week? court

I said NO to Crohn's , But I had NO Options
|
Ooh my my (~) a sun shiny day in NH ,yippi !! Hello ~ everyone.. I'm Jade , I live with crohn's & fibro , and just a few other side dishes to tag along with my crohn's. Since 2005 i've been living with this unwanted unwelcomed houseguest = dx with crohn's. I live with chronic pain, every aspect of my life takes on a new dimension. My daily decisions and choices are examined through a new lens, and I often find myrself carefully weighing the ramifications and possible outcomes of my choices. But, wait. Wasn't this the way it always was? Isn't this something all intelligent and responsible adults do? Yes, of course. However, living with chronic illness broadens the scope of that decision making process. The question isn't only how will this decision or choice affect me, but also, how will it affect my illness which in turn affects me and the choices and decisions I continually make. If you're living with a chronic illness you are courageous. In the process of meeting life's challenges, you have learned and are continuing to learn how to meet your fears and move beyond them. Perhaps you don't think of yourself as particularly courageous or even confident. Maybe it's time to take a closer look. No one knows the journey you and your illness have taken better than you do, and no ones knows more than you, the challenges you've met and the wins you've achieved. Acknowledge and embrace them. Celebrate your courage. I would love to offer you all the magical solution , i'm working on ' funding for a cure' and my practicing might lead to more sharing with you and other's. I've yet to master this myself. Fortunatly I do feel like I have my life under the best control I know how , but I must admit I struggle with crohn's. The best success i've had is the combination of both talk and drug therapy. Don't feel alone , i'm treading with ya !! Feel free to say Hi ~ I have NO clue how this site functions ..SoIsay.. ' I ' Better stick my nose out there .. as I call it , crack-a-lackin' ..& learn a little , eh. On the other side , Jade
